In-class activities

In most classes, we will have a short quiz or written activity where you’ll be asked to reflect on key points in the readings assigned for that day.

This exercise has a few goals:

• To check on whether you’re doing the reading, and reward you for reading carefully and thoughtfully
• To get you thinking about the day’s themes so that you will be ready to participate in class
• To give me a chance to take the temperature of the class and find out what’s on everyone’s mind, including those who are quieter in class.

In-class writing makes up 5% of your grade. If you have an excused absence, you can look up the quiz after class and submit your answer by email.
